Are The Red Sox Still A Good Media Buy?

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Yup, it hasn’t been the best year for the Red Sox. This is no secret to any Boston fan. We long for the days when we are seven up on the Yanks heading down the homestretch, but this year is not going to be one of those years. Plagued by injuries and some “hot” competition, this is not the Sox’s year. Sure, the folks who make their money on the Red Sox’s being a contender are surely feeling some pain this year. But it won’t be forever. A reporter called me yesterday and asked if we would be more cautious to advertise on a sports radio or TV station next season because of how this season looks to be playing out? I paused for a minute and gave it a thought. Being married to one of Boston’s most optimistic Red Sox fans for over 20 years, I knew exactly what to tell her and I was able to say so with gusto. Every year is a new year for the Boston Red Sox. Every year brings a new season of hope and prosperity. I guess you can equate it to having a baby. It hurts so much while you’re giving birth and then when it is over, you do it again because you have forgotten about all the pain the first … and second time.

We are Boston folks and we live in the sea of hope among our sports teams. It’s all part of the fun.
